Thanks for the info. I started to look up every serial number from ebay (lol) and found this thread: http://forums.ebay.com/db1/topic/Video- .. 5100083500
So several questions I have from reading this:
1) Is it true that ALL SNES consoles within a serial number range 'between UN318299752 and UN321238373' have the 1CHIP?![Snes 1 chip serial Snes 1 chip serial](/uploads/1/1/9/7/119724004/996747119.png)
2) Regarding post #6, is it true that the second revision of the 1CHIP (1CHIP-02 versus 01 and 03) really eliminates the vertical bar or does the revision actually not even matter?
Definitely looking into the SNES mini option as well (with RGB) but that is definitely a much more expensive route.![Serial Serial](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/edoAAOSwbZBbpVhx/s-l300.jpg)
It is believed that the first 10,000 US consoles were demo models used for Nintendo 64 demo kiosks in stores, at events, in promotions/commercials, etc. These all contain NUS-CPU-02 motherboards and have a serial number ranging from NS10000001x to NS10010000x. There is also writing etched on the underside of the Nintendo 64 unit reading. As with a large amount of commercial media, Nintendo games have different regional formats to discourage importing and to fit the corresponding region's video formats. These restrictions can be bypassed however with a variety of exploits, though at the user's own risk. Older consoles which took cartridges simply had cartridges of different shapes. For example, Japanese Famicom cartridges were. The important thing is the serial number that starts with UP in this scenario most likely. Having an earlier model SNES isn't necessarily the best if you're someone who prefers the 1-Chip SNES's like myself. Plus the earlier models are more likely to yellow.
